Autoimmune Disease, Dementia, and Dysbiosis

In some of the following blogs, I will share with you excerpts of my notes during lectures from the Age Medicine Management Group – AMMG conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah, November 1-3, 2024.

AMMG is a diverse group of heartfelt physicians sharing their clinical experiences and review of the literature in their fields of expertise. They are part of a pioneer of doctors In the US who battle to be forward and independent thinking, bringing better foundational and functional medicine to a growing group of patients who seek to be heard and desire to know the cause of their demise, or how to live the longest and healthiest life they can.

Autoimmune Disease, Dementia, and Dysbiosis‘  Lecture was given by Paul Thompson, MD, a practicing urologist for 20 years, from Fort Worth, Texas, who also raises and shows cutting horses.  You don’t often hear a urologist talk about autoimmune disease, however in 2015 he opened his own clinic in Age Management Medicine after first undergoing Age Management Medicine himself for his own health problems, and subsequently became a leader in this field of medicine.

Of interest is, he recently made a policy in his office to never use antibiotics, treating infections with other modalities.  It will be interesting to see in 6 months how his patients are thriving.  The following are bullet points from his lecture.

Autoimmune Disease

  • Women account for an estimated 78% of people who have autoimmune disorders.
  • 23-43 million people in the US have autoimmune disease.
    • 80% are females
  • 50% of people with severe covid have autoimmune antibodies (ANA anti-nuclear antibody).
    • (Note: it is not uncommon for other viruses to trigger auto-immune disease.)
  • There are more than 80 autoimmune conditions.
  • There has been a 50% increase in autoimmune disease in the US in the last 30 years.
  • There has been a 300% increase in ANA and autoimmune disease in teens from 1988 to 2012.
  • Covid vaccines can induce autoimmune disease when the adaptive immune system reacts to the spike protein and leads to autoimmune disease.
    • As an example, 3 female healthcare workers in Israel developed Graves disease 3 days after Covid vaccine injection.

Gut Dysbiosis

  • Hippocrites (460-370 BC) stated “All disease begins in the gut”
  • 70-80% of immune cells are present in the gut.
  • Without a healthy gut, the immune system can’t be healthy, leading to dysbiosis.
  • Dysbiosis (leaky gut), is an imbalance in the gut microbiome, leading to infection and autoimmune disease caused by:
    • Gluten (lectins) triggering release of zonulin which opens the junction between gastric lining cells.
    • Grains
    • GMOs
    • Plastics
    • Pesticides
    • Medications
    • Food Allergies
  • How many omeprazole will change the whole gut?  One!
  • Food allergies have risen 50% in the US in the last 50 years
    • Goblet cells in your GI system produce mucus in response to allergies to foods.
    • If you have phlegm after eating, you are allergic to what you ate
  • Autoimmune disease is caused by toxins, bacteria, and food allowed to go into the bloodstream via the leak gut.
  • 70% of patients with Multiple Sclerosis will have problems voiding because of food allergies and increased mucous.
  • This same autoimmune syndrome can lead to dementia via the gut-brain axis.

Treatment

  • This is where GLP-1’s change lives and can be lifesaving
  • 2 treatments for the gut that work are:
  • KPV (Lysine-Proline-Valine) and
  • BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound Protein)
  • KPV orally is effective in treating chronic inflammation in Crohn’s and Rheumatoid Arthritis at 500 mg up to 2000 mg a day
  • Combined methylated B-12 and folate with BPC-157 for Crohn’s Disease, IBS, gastric ulcers, and dementia!
  • BpC-157 naturally occurs in gastric juice and was found when looking for the cure for Crohn’s disease
  • Heals mucosal lining
  • Acts as an anti-inflammatory
  • Acts as a serotonin to improve anxiety
  • Enhances nerve regeneration
  • May support healing of tendons, joints, nervous system, the intestinal tract, the stomach and skin by stimulating synthesis of growth factors.

This lecture brings home, the bottom line is we need to support our bodies with good organic whole foods. Avoid processed foods and toxins like gluten.  Some people are so used to eating processed foods, they think they are real food.  There are not!

Also, be aware, medications can make us sick as they affect the good parts of our body’s systems in a negative way while they are trying to help us.  In medical school, I was taught, no one should be on more than 3 medications, or you may do more harm than good.

Always remember, 50% of what we learn is wrong, and it up to us to figure out which 50% it is.

It’s time to make Americans to be healthy again.  The increase in chronic disease in adults, children and grandchildren from various environmental, poor food quality and food additives, and medicinal causes is huge, and its time we change the pattern.

Health is the most important thing we have in our lives. If we don’t have our health, we can’t truly live life to its fullest, as sickness in any form siphons away our joy and energy.

Be proud of your health and make being healthy an American way of life in being the mentor for others.

Have an awesome day,  Dr D
