Vaccine Distribution: What are the numbers? How are we doing?
2-25-21 Vaccine Distribution: What are the numbers? How are we doing?
Vaccine Distribution as of 2-14-21 and 2-20-21
The below information from Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center includes February 14th and February 20th (3am EST) dates to show the trending of vaccine distribution in the US
BY FAR, the US has given the highest number of first and second vaccines than any other country in the world!
The numbers are staggeringly amazing! Really think about these numbers and what they mean. People are moaning and groaning how slow the US is distributing the vaccine. That is the media talking, not the numbers. Here are the numbers!
First Dose Vaccine Distribution USA vs Rest of the World
- Number of First Dose Vaccines given in USA as of Feb 14 vs Feb 20:
- 52 million vs 59.9 million
- This equates to 1.32 million vaccines given per day, from Feb 14th to Feb 20th. This is way ahead of goals stated on TV!
- It also means approximately 889,000 vaccines have been given on average every day 7 days a week since the first vaccine given Dec 14, 2020.
- Number of First Dose Vaccines given in the Entire Rest of the World as of Feb 20th is:
- 141.1 million
- Therefore, the US has given 30% of the world’s first doses of vaccines! This is a huge number!
- The countries with the next highest numbers of First Dose vaccines:
- China at 40.5 million, European Union 25.5 million, India 10.7 million
Second Dose Vaccine Distribution USA vs Rest of the World
- Number of Second Dose, fully vaccinated people in USA as of Feb 14th vs Feb 20th:
- 14 million vs 17 million
- This equates to 500,000 thousand second dose vaccines per day from Feb 14th to Feb 20.
- It also means approximately 369,565 thousand second dose vaccines have been given every day, 7 days a week since the first second dose vaccine was given Jan 4, 2020.
- Combining 59.9 million first dose vaccines and 17 million second dose vaccines means the USA has been giving an average of 1.15 million vaccines every day since December 14th!!
- Number of Second Doses, fully given in the entire rest of the world as of Feb 20th:
- 35.8 million vs USA 17 million
- USA has given 48% of the worlds Second Doses of vaccines! This is a staggering but fictious number because it excludes China and India as no data was received for the number of second doses given in these countries as of Feb 20th.
- The countries with the next highest numbers of Second Dose vaccines:
- European Union 7 million, Israel 2.9 million, Russia 1.7 million
Percent Number of Vaccines given per population as of February 24, 2021
- 6.07% of the US population has been vaccinated vs 0.57% of the World

Update on First and Second Dose Vaccinations given in the US
Interestingly, since I first started writing this piece, the number of first vaccinations given is now 64.2 million (rounded off) and second dose vaccinations given is 19.5 million (rounded off) so approximately 83.7 million vs 79.9 million vaccinations given as of Feb 22 from Feb 20th! This is a staggering 3.8 million vaccines given in 2 days! 1.9 million vaccines given per day over the weekend alone!
1.9 million vaccines given per day for the last 2 days is certainly not the dome and gloom heard over the media about vaccines being delayed because of Texas power outages. First responders don’t quit working because the weather is bad. They are very creative and will get the vaccines out as fast as they are able. These numbers prove it.
Massive immunizations are being given in the US surpassing the first predicted amount of vaccinations needed to flattened the curve ,and is a huge step to herd immunity. Look at the curves. See for yourself. Stay positive.
People need to report facts, not predictions of possible disasters or finding someone or something like the weather to blame, for a story on how not enough vaccines are being given. First responders are working around the clock. Thank them for their passionate service. We are doing great! People who have been vaccinated are experiencing freedom for the first time in a long time. It is a much needed and welcomed relief.
Next week will be about Herd Immunity, another moving target of numbers. Do we have to wear masks and socially distance forever? Following this will be how the vaccine made, does it affect us genetically, and what are the adverse effects? Is it protective of other strains and why? What could be the long term effects?
Have an awesome day. Be grateful and thankful for your health. It is the most precious thing you have. Dr. D
