What Can You Do If You Have Trouble with Urine Leaking?
Urine leaking with activity is called Stress Incontinence and is one of the least openly talked about and most embarrassing problem women have. Some women have it and don’t even know what it is called, or even it is an issue that can be resolved.
A whopping fifty percent or more women have stress incontinence! It is a monumental problem with few traditional medicine solutions.
Stress incontinence is leakage of urine when you laugh, or sneeze, twist, or cough. Sometimes women have it when they are climbing stairs, fast walking, running, jumping on the trampoline or doing jumping jacks. It is embarrassing to have happen and most women adapt by just avoiding the things that give them stress incontinence. They become resolved this is the way their body is and just accept there is nothing to do about it.
Why Do You Get Stress Incontinence?
It used to be stress incontinence mostly happened after vaginal delivery or as you grew older because the pelvic floor muscles are more lax. Now a common age for stress incontinence is the 30’s and 40’s. One of the reasons for this is more and more women are on Birth Control Pills and/or Anti-Depressants. When you are on either of these medications, your testosterone decreases. Despite what national television has to say about testosterone being a “bad drug”, testosterone is vital to our muscles and ligaments and is imperative to helping our pelvic floor muscles remain strong and healthy. Age is another culprit that allows the decrease of our hormones, testosterone of course being one of them even in females.
Being a runner, I noticed when I started testosterone pellets (Hormone Pellet Therapy) placed under the skin in my buttocks area, my stress incontinence went away. I was able to run a marathon without a hint of it! I encourage any woman with stress incontinence to seek out this therapy if exercising is not helping. Testosterone gives you many many other benefits, including tightening of your skin noticeable in your face and a healthy glow!
Can You Strengthen Your Pelvic Floor Muscles with Exercise?
Certainly, exercises such as Kegel exercises and yoga poses that teach you to how tighten your pelvic floor muscles help immensely, but if your testosterone is low you will not have the fuel necessary to build those muscles.
Yoga for women is the one of the biggest organizations that helps women with stress incontinence, gets them to talk about it, and gives them specifics on how to strengthen their pelvic floor muscles. Women often think they are the only one with this problem, and secretly avoid things they love to do or start wearing pads to catch the embarrassing leakage.
Concentrating on strengthening all 18 pelvic floor muscles at one time is a great exercise program for stress incontinence.
