Dawn’s Story; Part 7, “Results”

Results. I don’t tend to weigh myself regularly because I don’t want my life to be ruled by a number on a scale, but I am noticing that my clothes fit better and some of my pants could be called too big. I would describe myself as feeling better overall. Today is Pi day (yes, I am a nerd) and day 63 of my journey to better health. Here are some other results per Dr. Donaldson. As a result of the 15 day cleanse I did last month, my cholesterol, LP plaque and something that impacts how you clot all went down. Dr. Donaldson said the diet changed my ability to have a stroke. My thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) also went down. For those of you who don’t have Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism like me, TSH is elevated because your body is trying to get your thyroid to do its job. Lower TSH = good news.

Now for the not-so-great news, my magnesium levels haven’t budged and my vitamin D, potassium and calcium are all low. Plus my protein stores are down. And, in other news that really bugs my perfectionistic self, I apparently can’t follow directions! I haven’t been taking enough magnesium, Total Thyroid or multi-vitamins!

However, the good news is that I get to do more Epsom salt baths (aaahhhh). So, in addition to taking more magnesium, Total Thyroid and multi-vitamins, I need to start taking iron and start eating 120 grams of protein a day. I basically eat some type of meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I don’t have a very good attitude about it. Dr. Donaldson suggested that I buy a Paleo cookbook and I’m going to need to do that because I’m running out of creative ways to cook meat.

It’s also ironic that I started working with Dr. Donaldson because I didn’t want to take 4 antihistamines every day. And now, I take 14 pills (vitamin B, multi vitamin, probiotic, Total Thyroid, Candida treatment and magnesium) each morning plus a powdered supplement for GI health. I take 4 pills with dinner (Total Thyroid and Endocrine Health) and 12 pills (magnesium, iron, immune booster and Candida treatment) plus another dose of the powdered supplement before bed!

Yes, that is a grand total of 30 pills each day. And I forgot to mention the biocidin that I take before each meal for the bad bacteria in my gut. Based on the results to date, I think it’s working, but I’ll know more in about a month when I go see the Quest Diagnostics ladies for more blood work.

If you are wondering, I did have cake on my birthday and it was delicious.
