Perspective on Quarantine, Lockdown, and Covid 19  Part II

Last week’s text talked about the INCUBATION PERIOD of Covid 19 can be longer than the 14 day suggested quarantine period.  Not mentioned was an interesting fact the incubation period in people > 65 yrs old and < 14 yrs old is longer than people 15 to 64 years old as shown in the  graph below. The longest incubation period is in > 65 yrs old and it extends well past 14 days.  The incubation period of an infection is influenced by infectious dose and immune response. *

Today I pose the question.

Did quarantines and lockdowns work to contain Covid-19?  Or Is Sweden correct in their assumption herd immunity will render the virus extinct?

Lockdown is defined as “an emergency measure or condition in which people are temporarily prevented from entering or leaving a restricted area or building during a threat of danger.”

In order to answer this question, I decided to track 5 states, NYC, NJ, CAL. FLA, GA, and 6 countries,  US, India, Sweden, Italy, Canada, and Germany all of whom had different approaches to containing Covid 19.

The aspects I chose to follow were:

    1. Population
    2. Deaths per million, total number of deaths
    3. Date of the first documented case
    4. Travel restrictions
    5. Date of lockdown, date lockdown was released and what happened to number of cases and deaths
    6. Total deaths, Graph of deaths over time
    7. Graph of cases over time
    8. Second wave of Covid 19

The countries will be presented next week and the states the week after next.  One interesting fact is the theory the denser the population and the closeness of living as a major factor in the spread of disease was dispelled by India’s initial total lockdown measures.  We all have a lot to learn from each other.

Have a blessed healthy awesome day!  Dr D
