Dawn’s Story; Part 8, “Results- Part 2”
Results – part 2. Full disclosure – I am writing this on April Fool’s Day, but this is all true J. Today is day 80 of my journey to better health and I thought instead of the more general results I shared with you last time, I would get a little more specific. First, I stopped taking antihistamines on February 8th, so it has been 51 days (almost 2 months) and I have not had another attack of angioedema! I am holding April 8th in my mind as a big milestone since I typically have not made it more than 2 months without an episode of angioedema. It’s not like I expect something to happen on that day, it’s more about having a short term goal beyond ‘do this for 6 months’. Speaking of ‘6 months’, since I am on day 80, I am close to my halfway point, which is pretty cool.
So, result #1, no antihistamines for 51 days. Hooray!
I had an in person appointment with Dr. Donaldson this week. Since I signed up for concierge service, I talk or text with her every week, but it was nice to see her in person. She first put me on the ‘Inbody’ machine to measure my muscle and fat and the good news is that I lost 2 more pounds of fat and gained a pound of muscle.
Result #2, more muscle and less fat! And the best part is that Dr. Donaldson told me that she was so proud of me! Stop and think about that for a second…have you ever had a physician tell you that they were proud of you? I don’t think I ever have.
This just gave me further appreciation for the type of care that Dr. Donaldson provides and added a bit of spring to my step. After the appointment, I began to think about how I had written down my measurements in January as a comparison point, and I figured it was time to see if anything else had changed.
Result #3, inches lost! The great news is that since January 9th, I have lost 5.5 inches in my midsection (waist, hips, and ribs).
Result #4, just sayin’.I also checked my weight and I am down over 10 pounds.
After this week’s appointment, Dr. Donaldson advised me to stay the course, which is good news because I really don’t want to start taking even more supplements.
I’ll get more bloodwork about mid-month and that will tell if I am making on progress on magnesium, potassium, calcium and protein stores. I’ll be sure to let you know what happens!
